After our Castle Danger visit we headed back into Duluth to hit our dinner reservations at Va Bene Caffe. If you’ve never been there, it’s highly recommended. Once we caught up with a full stomach we made the trip across the lake to our next stop in Superior, WI: Thirsty Pagan Brewing.

January 8, 2016The next stop on our trip was the Castle Danger Brewery. We made our approach after a quick turn off the highway. Just like Voyageur this taproom faces Lake Superior and provides some excellent scenery.

January 7, 2016After a short night of drinking we woke up early and hit the road. The plan was to get in as many breweries as we could and we were to start at the furthest one north and work our way down. Before we knew it we had rolled into Grand Marais to our first stop: Voyageur Brewing Company.

January 6, 2016The second stop of our tour was the Bent Paddle Brewing Co. later that evening. I’d had most of their beers at various tasting events and was really excited to try them direct from the source.

January 4, 2016In the middle of November, Samantha and I joined our friends Megan and Mitch on a brewery tour of the north shore. We began on a Friday night with the goal of getting in as many breweries and taprooms as we were able. The first stop of our trip would be, appropriately, Fitger’s Brewhouse.

December 23, 2015In late October Samantha and I needed to begin planning our north shore brewery trip with our friends Megan and Mitch. There was no better place than F-Town Beer Company, one of the many newly opened breweries of 2015. I had heard good things about them, so after meeting up and carpooling we headed down the interstate to Faribault, MN.

December 15, 2015This past fall, I was lucky enough to take a trip to the British Isles. In addition to an excessive amount of pubs and the impressive Guinness Storehouse, we also had the chance to go to a real working brewery. For a country that contains Roman ruins and buildings that have stood for hundreds of years, the York Brewery is relatively new. Founded in 1996, it ended a 40-year drought of beer brewed within the city walls of York. To demonstrate the history resident in the city, the building itself was built in the 16th century and was the birthplace of the inventor of the Hansom Cab!

In the past handful of years we’ve seen the addition of the Land of 10,000 Beers exhibit and the expanded availability of craft beers throughout the entire fair. It’s a chance for brewers to get creative and make some crazy beers that fit at the fair but wouldn’t fly year round. The Growler has a great guide to the beers available at the fair, and I got the chance to try some of them this Thursday.

August 23, 2015Northbound Smokehouse & Brewpub is one of the closest breweries to our home. So one Tuesday evening when we weren’t interested in making ourselves dinner, we decided to head down and grab a bite to eat and a couple of beers.

August 20, 2015A week ago my cousin and my wife’s close friend Megan and her husband Mitch inquired whether they’d be able to join the Tap Traveler on one of his adventures. After a quick calendar check we planned a trip to Badger Hill the next night. We’d heard good things about them, I’ve tried several of their beers, and it’s in a close location for both of us. So on a Thursday evening we headed to Shakopee to give their taproom a visit.
