As I mentioned in my previous post about my visit to Jack Pine Brewery, I was in the Brainerd lakes area for a bachelor party at the end of August. Mid-day on Saturday I had to leave early to get to a wedding, but I took a slight detour into Nisswa, MN to get one more stampy in my Northern Ale Guide. So, on a windy overcast day, I pulled into the parking lot of Big Axe Brewing Company.

October 11, 2016In late August I found myself driving up to the Brainerd area for a bachelor party. Having had the foresight to keep my Northern Ale Guide in my car at all times, I decided it was worth a short detour to nearby Baxter before heading to the festivities. The destination for that day was Jack Pine Brewery.

August 15, 2016Hoping once again to use our Northern Ale Guide and an expired Groupon we joined up with our friends Mitch and Megan to make a trip into Minneapolis for yet another weeknight brewery trip. This time we were headed to Harriet Brewing which is located in the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis.

August 14, 2016After some food and a couple of drinks at Fulton Brewing we made our way to the second and final stop of the night: Insight Brewing. It wasn’t our first visit to their taproom but it was one we had anxiously been waiting to try again; this time with a free beer courtesy of the Northern Ale Guide.

August 13, 2016In an ongoing effort to complete our Northern Ale Guide, Samantha and I joined our friends Mitch and Megan for a trip to Minneapolis. Our aim was to hit two spots on a weeknight and the first of those was Fulton Brewing.

July 27, 2016There is no substitute for a cold beer on a hot summer day in Minnesota. We had a Groupon to burn and were determined not to use it on the last day possible. So in late June on a particularly warm and extremely breezy day, Samantha and I met up with some family at Enki Brewing.

July 25, 2016After our visit to Klášterní Pivovar Strahov we took a trip to U Fleků. Having brewed beer continuously for over 500 years it was great to visit. While they have a taproom akin to a german beer hall, they only brew a single style of beer so I didn’t feel a full blog post was necessary. After enjoying some excellent dark lager and tasty honey apéritif we strolled through Prague’s New Town to our final stop of the night, the craft brewery of Pivovarský Dům.

July 17, 2016I recently went on a trip with my wife and my parents to eastern Europe. Our first stop was Prague, near the birthplace of the pilsner. I did a little research before hand to find some craft breweries within the city and the top brewery on my list was Klášterní Pivovar Strahov. Easily the the most beautiful setting to any brewery that I’ve visited it’s located near the castle complex situated on the west side of the Vltava River overlooking the Old Town in Prague. After taking a tour of the castle grounds we were ready to grab a bite to eat and enjoy a cold beer on a very hot day.

May 13, 2016In late April, Samantha and I were at a birthday party for my nephew. The night before our friends informed us they would be at Bauhaus Brew Labs that evening and that we should stop by. Conveniently, my sister lives in Northeast Minneapolis and it was a quick drive to their taproom.

April 17, 2016My family had planned to visit my brother in Rochester for Easter, and one of the choices for dinner was the Grand Rounds Brewpub. It was suggested as a good place for food but I was also curious about their beer. After driving down and spending the afternoon with family we made the short trip from my brother’s house into downtown Rochester for dinner.
