There is no substitute for a cold beer on a hot summer day in Minnesota. We had a Groupon to burn and were determined not to use it on the last day possible. So in late June on a particularly warm and extremely breezy day, Samantha and I met up with some family at Enki Brewing.

After our visit to Klášterní Pivovar Strahov we took a trip to U Fleků. Having brewed beer continuously for over 500 years it was great to visit. While they have a taproom akin to a german beer hall, they only brew a single style of beer so I didn’t feel a full blog post was necessary. After enjoying some excellent dark lager and tasty honey apéritif we strolled through Prague’s New Town to our final stop of the night, the craft brewery of Pivovarský Dům.

I recently went on a trip with my wife and my parents to eastern Europe. Our first stop was Prague, near the birthplace of the pilsner. I did a little research before hand to find some craft breweries within the city and the top brewery on my list was Klášterní Pivovar Strahov. Easily the the most beautiful setting to any brewery that I’ve visited it’s located near the castle complex situated on the west side of the Vltava River overlooking the Old Town in Prague. After taking a tour of the castle grounds we were ready to grab a bite to eat and enjoy a cold beer on a very hot day.

It was suggested as a good place for food but I was also curious about their beer. After driving down and spending the afternoon with family we made the short trip from my brother’s house into downtown Rochester for dinner.

While looking on the map for the location of our friends’ housewarming party, I decided to check and see whether there were any breweries in the area. I didn’t have any on my list near them so I searched Google to see if there were any near Maple Grove. I was surprised to find that OMNI Brewing Company had fallen through the cracks! We left the party at a reasonable time so we decided to make the short trip to visit the taproom while we were in the area.

In an ongoing effort to nurture our relationships with people that, like us, lack children we called our newlywed friends Mattie and Sara up for a night out. They were looking for a night to unwind so we decided to visit a brewery in the cities. We had initially planned on using one of our Groupons but during the drive Samantha identified that it wasn’t good for that day! After some quick pivoting we decided to venture into St. Paul to the relatively new Bad Weather Brewing Company.

After hitting many other breweries in the southern metro we finally decided it was time to make the trip. They are actually the closest brewery to our hometown, so it’s a shame it had taken so long. Last Friday evening Samantha and I were looking for something to do and decided to head down to 612Brew. On our way there we stopped by one of our favorite food trucks turned restaurant; Cafe Racer Kitchen. This was particularly fitting because the last time we were at 612 it was to evaluate them for our wedding. After filling our stomachs with some delicious Latin American cuisine (try the pulled chicken) we made the short drive to Northeast, Minneapolis.

In the middle of February our friends Mitch and Megan reached out to myself, Samantha, and our other friend Dustin to see if we wanted to meet up for drinks at the brand new Nutmeg Brewhouse. After some intense deliberation we decided that we could shift our schedules around and on a crisp Wednesday evening we made the trek south across the river to Burnsville, Minnesota.
