With our tent setup we began the walk to Castle Danger Brewery. We hadn’t planned very well for our visit to Two Harbors, but we lucked out when my wife mentioned to a co-worker that we were visiting. Turns out his daughter lived seven blocks directly north of their taproom. A perfect place to sleep after taking part in our first Minnesota Brewery Running Series!
Continue Reading…One good thing about Facebook is that it recommends things that match your interests. It will also tell you about events your friends are interested in attending. Between that cross section, we typically get informed about a lot of beer related events. On an early July evening my wife informed me that she found an event on Facebook just across the river from us called Bluegrass & Beer. Like peanut butter and jelly, a match made in heaven. Later that week we were strolling down a path in the Caponi Art Park with the distant sounds of a fiddle dancing off the leaves.
Continue Reading…It’s that time of year again! The Minnesota State Fair has begun, and it’s becoming an increasingly great destination for beer lovers. In the past handful of years we’ve seen the addition of the Land of 10,000 Beers exhibit and the expanded availability of craft beers throughout the entire fair. It’s a chance for brewers to get creative and make some crazy beers that fit at the fair but wouldn’t fly year round. The Growler has a great guide to the beers available at the fair, and I got the chance to try some of them this Thursday.
Continue Reading…We recently had a beer tasting hosted by Viking Liquor Barrel out of Prior Lake. It wasn’t your traditional tasting where you walk around and sample beers at various tables. Instead we sat down and were given a presentation on the beers we were trying from brewery employees. It was slower paced and we didn’t get to try as many beers as normal, but hearing the origin of beers and some tasting notes on each was a pleasant surprise. At the end they mentioned they would be having their annual beer, wine, and spirits tasting at Lakefront Days. Say no more, sign us up!
